Navitas Naturals New Nori Powder Navitas Naturals

Nori is best known as a sweet and salty green sushi wrap, but now we've taken this seaweed to a whole new level by launching the first-ever organic raw Nori Powder. Made from premium nori seaweed grown in the Sea of Japan, this new product is certified organic, non-GMO, kosher, vegan and raw.

To make this organic superfood powder, nori fronds are sustainably harvested and then pressed, dried and milled to a fine powder. All of the processing is done at low temperatures to maintain nutritional integrity, flavor and its status as a raw food. Navitas Naturals nori is hand-selected for top-grade quality and flavor, and it’s carefully inspected and rinsed. Like most seaweed, nori is a low-calorie food with an abundance of bioavailable nutrients. By weight, nori contains more than 40 percent protein – the highest of any seaweed. Nori is also a rich source of important minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and lignans. In particular, it provides A and B vitamins, iodine, carotene, calcium, iron and zinc. The bioavailability and digestibility of nori’s many nutrients are enhanced by its naturally high fiber content. We also offer organic, raw Nori Sheets.

Navitas Naturals Nori Millet Navitas Naturals

Raw Nori Powder’s salty-sweet and complex flavor is a fine example of Umami, which is known in Japan as the “5th taste,” and is defined as savory and mouth-watering. This delicious, easy-to-use powder adds a seaweed flavor and nutrition boost to soups, salads, green smoothies and many other recipes. The Nori Millet recipe below (and pictured above) is a savory side dish that can be served alongside vegetables, used as a filling for a wrap, or enjoyed on its own as a light lunch.

Nori Millet

1 Cup dry Millet
1 Tbsp Yellow Miso Paste
2 Tbsp Hemp Oil
1 Tbsp Rice Wine Vinegar
2 Tbsp Navitas Naturals Nori Powder
2 Green Onions, sliced thin

Makes 2 to 4 servings. Wash the millet to remove any grit. Transfer to a dry skillet and heat over medium for 2-3 minutes until fragrant to lightly toast the grain. Spoon the millet into a medium pot, add 2 cups of water and the miso paste, stirring to break up the miso. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for about 20 minutes, or until all the excess water is gone and the grain is tender. Remove from heat, add the hemp oil, rice wine vinegar and nori powder, and mix well. Top with green onions and serve warm.

Navitas Naturals has new improved packaging! Each 3-ounce bag of Nori Powder has a new, zipper pull tab that makes it cleaner and easier to open the bag, and it's better for re-sealing and maintaining the freshness for multiple uses.Navitas Naturals Navitas Naturals

10 Year Anniversary

Ten years ago, retail shopping for organic superfoods was mostly limited to just a few obscure products with unfavorable shelf locations in natural food stores. Our founder, Zach Adelman set out to change that. A decade later, thanks to his vision and all of you nutrition-savvy customers, we’ve established superfoods as a store category of its own at a wide variety of retailers around North America. To celebrate 10 super years with you, we’re offering 20% off all of our products this week.

Since 2003, the mission of Navitas Naturals has been to provide the finest organic superfoods that increase energy and enhance health. The health and well-being of people and the planet is at the core of everything we do, and that’s why ALL of our premium products are certified organic and non-GMO. Super people get the job done right – and we have built a strong team that has grown to more than 60 employees, and we’re hiring more. We’re proud of the fact that we’ve grown our line steadily and sustainably to include more than 30 superfoods and that despite humble beginnings, our superfoods are now sold at more than 5,000 stores in 30 countries.

The re-emergence of whole food nutrition awareness in the last decade has helped so many people lead a healthier lifestyle – and many of you have been the advocates and teachers pushing the ball forward with us. We have accomplished so much together! We look forward to sharing another 10 nutritious and delicious years with you. Thanks for coming to our birthday party, and keep an eye out for more fun 10-year anniversary celebration activities over the next month.

Over the past five years, the Navitas team has watched natural food chef Julie Morris create hundreds of amazing smoothies during a wide variety of events, classes, product development sessions, recipe video taping and store demos. That’s why it is a pleasure for us to write a review of her delightful new book Superfood Smoothies, released today by Sterling Publishing. In this comprehensive smoothie how-to book, Chef Julie shares 100 quick, healthy and delicious recipes that use the world's most nutritious foods.

Beautiful food pictures are key to the success of a cookbook, and Superfood Smoothies has a lot of eye-candy to enjoy! The gorgeous new book also includes informative chapters on smoothie “basics”, “essentials” and “nutritional rewards”, a helpful conversion chart, and a resource guide. It is thoughtful that the recipes are searchable by both style of drink, and nutritional health function. For example, this Maqui Banana smoothie recipe from the book, below, is indexed under Beauty foods, due to Maqui’s high level of skin-healthy anthocyanins – the antioxidants that give it that deep purple color.

The book is a fun read, too, and Julie’s enthusiasm for smoothies is obvious. “When I look at an empty blender, I see a vessel of health-giving opportunity ready and waiting to load in as much nutrient-dense goodness as I can fit,” says Morris in the intro to the book. “Nature tastes just a little better blended.” Many of you may know her as the dynamic host of our popular series of videos called 60 Second Smoothies.

You can also find Julie’s sage superfood advice and recipes in her popular Ask the Chef column on our Smoothment blog. This is Julie’s second book, you should also check out Superfood Kitchen, released by Sterling last year.
