Special Sauce

especially creamy & tangy

Anyone who’s had a great burger knows that half the secret is in the tangy creamy “special sauce” that accompanies it. Try this special sauce the next time you warm up the grill (or just make a sandwich), and sneak in a few extra superfoods!

Ingredients

½ Cup Navitas Naturals Cashews
2 Tbsp Navitas Naturals Hemp Seeds
2 Tbsp Navitas Naturals Coconut Water Powder
1¼ Cup Water
¼ Cup dark Beer*
1 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
2 Tbsp Veganaise (egg-free mayonnaise)
2 Tbsp Ketchup
3 Tbsp Nutritional Yeast
½ tsp Onion Powder
½ Tbsp miso paste
½ tsp Sea Salt
¼ Cup Navitas Naturals Chia Seeds
2 Tbsp minced Shallot
¼ Cup Relish**

Directions

In a blender, compbine the cashews, hemp seeds, coconut water powder, water, and dark beer together. Blend until very smooth and creamy. Add the vinegar, Veganaise, ketchup, nutritional yeast, onion powder, miso paste, and sea salt, and blend once more. Transfer the sauce to a quart-sized mason jar or medium-sized bowl. Add the chia seeds, shallot, and relish, and mix well. Cover, and refrigerate for a minimum of 30 minutes. Stir once more before serving.

Sauce may be made a day ahead of time, and will last, refrigerated, up to one week.

*Beer adds to the depth of flavor in this sauce. For those avoiding alcohol, unflavored kombucha may be substituted.

**Look for all-natural varieties that have no added dyes/chemicals.

Chef's Notes

Since this makes a large amount, you can also use some of the sauce as a dip for vegetables, chips, and crackers.

Yield: 2 1/2 Cups
